چکیده

Abstract Male-male social relationships in group-living mammals vary from fierce competition to the formation of opportunistic coalitions or development long-lasting bonds. We investigated male-male Guinea baboons ( Papio papio ), a species characterized by tolerance and affiliation. live multi-level society, with units one reproductively active “primary” male, 1–6 females, offspring at core level. Together “bachelor” males, several form party, 2–3 parties constitute gang. aimed clarify which degree male relationship patterns varied relatedness pair-bond status, i.e., whether males had primary bachelor status. Data were collected 24 two near Simenti Niokolo-Koba National Park Senegal. Males maintained differentiated equitable affiliative (“strong bonds”) other that stable over 4-year period, irrespective their Remarkably, most strong bonds multiple indicating play an important role cohesion parties. A clear dominance hierarchy could not be established due high uncertainty individual rank scores, yet more likely found low end hierarchy. Average was significantly higher between strongly bonded suggesting kin biases contribute preferences males. Long-term data will needed test how affect tenure ultimately reproductive success. Alcohol’s Effects on Pair-Bond Maintenance in Male Prairie Voles

Alcohol abuse can have devastating effects on social relationships. In particular, discrepant patterns of heavy alcohol consumption are associated with increased rates of separation and divorce. Previous studies have attempted to model these effects of alcohol using socially monogamous prairie voles. These studies showed that alcohol consumption can inhibit the formation of pair bonds in this s...

Triadic male-infant-male interaction serves in bond maintenance in male Assamese macaques

While the ultimate consequences of social bonds start to be better understood, the proximate behavioural mechanisms underlying the formation and maintenance of these close affiliative relationships have received less attention. We investigated the possible function of male-infant-male interactions (MIMIs) in male-male social bonding processes by analysing about 9000h of focal animal observation...

The Impact of male reproductive skew on kin structure and sociality in multi-male groups.

Patterns of within-group relatedness are expected to affect the prospects for cooperation among group members through kin selection. It has long been established that dispersal patterns determine the availability of kin and there is ample evidence of matrilineal kin biases in social behavior across primate species. However, in 1979, Jeanne Altmann(1) suggested that mating patterns also influenc...

Human male pair bonding and testosterone.

Previous research in North America has supported the view that male involvement in committed, romantic relationships is associated with lower testosterone (T) levels. Here, we test the prediction that undergraduate men involved in committed, romantic relationships (paired) will have lower T levels than men not involved in such relationships (unpaired). Further, we also test whether these differ...
